The UK’s favourite bird – and ours too. With its bright red breast it is familiar throughout the year and especially at Christmas! I love to get christmas cards with robins on. They seem to symbolize our English Christmas season. Males and females look identical, and young birds have no red breast and are spotted with golden brown. Robins sing nearly all year round and despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders. I have seen one of the robins really chasing another one out of the garden so I guess it wasn’t it’s partner. Something I didn’t know and seems a strange thing is that they will sing at night next to street lights.
The Robins in our garden seem to be a pair and an offspring. It is always such a delight to see them. They love meal-worms which I sometimes soak for them as I buy freeze-dried ones, but they have to be quick to get them or the Starlings get in there first.
